How my store came about ...

The idea of the flamenco store came about when I visited my close friend this summer in the South of France. My friend Marta has 5 kids. Yes, FIVE kids. How she’s managed to hold onto her sanity is beyond me, but I have to confess that her children are all beautifully behaved. Her second child is a gorgeous girl called Constancjia (or Connie for short). Connie is my god-daughter and has recently turned 9 years old.

My dear friend Marta confessed to me that Connie was desperate for a flamenco dress, her best friends at school had one and she wanted one too. More importantly, she had a fancy dress party coming up soon and she had to go as a flamenco dancer.

As Marta and her gorgeous family live in Poland, flam
e
nco dresses are a little hard to come by so Marta asked me if I could find something cheap and cheerful in Madrid.

When I returned to Madrid I obliged and dragged my son along with me to the Plaza Mayor where many of the souvenir shops are located. I went into one after the other looking for that special flamenco dress for Connie. There are loads of souvenir shops in this area and just about all of them sell the flamenco dresses at prices ranging from 25 euros and upwards. The red flamenco dress that I sell was being sold in several shops for an incredible 45 euros!!! These shops claimed that the red dress they sold was handmade and obviously not the same as cheaper version. Hmmmm . . .

I decided to go back to the shop where I had seen an identical red flamenco dress for 25 euros. It was getting late and I wanted to be able to send off the dress the following day so that Connie would get it in time for her party. However, my sense of direction is awful and I got lost. As you can imagine, along the way my son was moaning and groaning as we went up and down the whole area looking for this shop. In the end, as my son was complaining so much I decided to give up and head back to the car park. On our way back to the car we had to walk along some pretty filthy little streets. The area, for those who aren’t familiar, is gorgeous, with some beautiful architecture but the streets are really dirty. As we approached the entrance to the car park (finally) I could see another souvenir shop and it was still open. To my son’s dismay I told him that I was going to have one last look. As I walked into this little souvenir shop I saw a rack of red flamenco dresses. I asked how much and the sales attendant responded 12 euros. I was delighted!!!! I immediately bought Connie’s dress and set off home with a huge sense of satisfaction. I had found the dress! and it only cost me 12 euros! To complete the outfit I also bought her a fan, a black shawl , some castañuelas and a hair comb.

It occurred to me that there are no doubt many other little girls yearning for that special flamenco dress and parents hoping to find it at an affordable price which is how my store came about. I hope that people who visit my store will agree that the prices are truly unbeatable. The only thing that I can’t control, regretfully, is the shipping cost. I have done my best to keep it as low as possible, the shipping costs are the cheapest method of shipping available based on the weight of the item when wrapped.
